Finished

I've just read the last page of the story, read the acknowledgments, the conversation with Therese Fowler and the book discussion questions. Souvenir was beautifully written, full of surprises and it made me cry. I wanted post as soon as I'd finished and now I have to go sit on the porch by myself and think for a while.

It's what I always do when I finish a great book.

If you post a review, Lisa, I won't read it, no "spoilers" for me. Instead my plan is to spend this weekend reading my copy of a "great" book. Ah, to experience it all over again, huh? *G*

Wasn't it something else? Gosh, I want to pick up the phone and call you two so we can chat about it.

Larramie, I really want to write a review (and also post it to Amazon UK), but I am absolutely not going to reveal anything that would reveal how the story unfolds. It's going to be tricky, but I think it's doable. It's just going to take a little more time and thought...you are in for a great weekend with Souvenir :))) Thank you for the gift that allowed me to be one of the first people in the US to enjoy a truly wonderful book.

Amy, I am going to email you my phone number! Yes, I do want to talk about the book too.

Patti, the measure of how much I've enjoyed a book is always how much time I need to sit alone and think once I've turned the last page. I've read quite a few where I wanted to get to the last page so I could be done with them and never gave them another thought. This is not a book like that. Therese managed to write a very compelling story with subplots and themes that make us ponder the bigger questions as they pertain to our own lives. My kind of book.

Fantastic book! I love it when I can't put it down until I'm done. I hate it when a book makes me cry, but this one was well worth the crying. Love the wonderful messages about life that are expertly woven into the story. I'm in a hurry now to get the next book Therese is working on!

Peggy, I am so intrigued to read your comment. Are you in the UK, or might you be the sister of our wonderful benefactor, Larramie? Do I have you to thank for carrying my copy of Souvenir across the ocean? If you are not, I'm just as interested in learning how you came to read Souvenir. Yes, it made me cry and will leave me thinking about some of the bigger things for some time. Thank you for commenting!

Literary Quote

It is worth mentioning, for future reference, that the creative power which bubbles so pleasantly in beginning a new book quiets down after a time, and one goes on more steadily. Doubts creep in. Then one becomes resigned. Determination not to give in, and the sense of an impending shape keep one at it more than anything.
